Training
Programme Design – what’s in it for me?
- In our experience the reason most training needs
arise can be classified as follows:
- Planned personal development for an individual as
part of their career progression
- Change in job role, someone taking on a new post
where new skills are needed
- Project roll-out, where a group of people require
new skills as part of the development or implementation
of a new technology or business process.
Training needs for the first two
reasons are quite often met through public schedule
training, as they are individually based and there is
less cost-justification for a private course delivery.
Project roll-outs are more likely
to involve a number of different training needs for
a variety of individuals, with varying job roles and
experience levels. They usually have specific time dependencies,
with training needed for one group of people during
the project development, another for testing, and for
the remainder in a phased way as part of implementation.
These groups of people will have similar support requirements
following their training. As project roll-outs typically
involve many end users with similar training requirements,
the cost justification for a customised training solution
is easily made. However, the design of an appropriate
training programme to meet this variety of training
needs may be more complex.
System & Training Audit
For a business intelligence system to deliver genuine
benefits, its users must apply their knowledge and skills
to the full. However, there are often gaps in the experience
and expertise of users, gaps which increase with time
as:
- Job roles and underlying business demands change
- The IT or MIS infrastructure develops
- Users need to be retrained
The Systems and Training Audit is
designed to identify such gaps and help develop a plan
to address these in a structured and cost-effective
manner through a training and skills development report
that understands and recognises the training requirements
for each individual user.
Furthermore, where appropriate,
recommendations for overall systems improvement will
be made to help identify ways to enhance the supporting
infrastructure. The benefit of investment in the audit
process will be the design of a training solution that
more closely matches the needs of the various groups
of users than standard public schedule courses. It is
also likely to be more cost-effective, and to match
more closely to the timescale requirements. Ultimately
this leads to reduced risk for the project as a whole.
